The tide is high
The tide is high, the chain is tight.
On the ankle, pain drowned in numbness.
Scars washed by the salt heal quickly as new cuts are formed.
The waves are rolling he takes gasps of air.
Is this life?
He stays afloat with great effort and the saddest pride.
Ignore the chain, ignore the pain, that's all they'd say.
This is, his life, be grateful today, you won't die.
But the tide is high and the chain is tight.
The pain is calling, just let it win, he may be right?
No more air if not in bubbles.
Let's drawn the pain, let's drawn.
Plunge in the depth
would this be his death?
Embraced by the coldest water
comforted by the highest pressure.
It crushes the rib cage, it squeezes the skull.
Eyes open, no colours, it's dark blue and dull.
The fog is clear, the sediment settles.
On the bottom at last, but he cannot rest.
Was this death or just a test?
Shimmer on the distance surface.
Silent foam as the waves break in the wind.
If only he could see, that rusted key.
Is it the sand or the stubbornness of what he knows that made him blind?
"Rush to surface so you won't drawn"
"Don't look for help, you're on your own"
"Ignore the pain, endure the chain"
At the bottom he listen to his darkest thoughts
comforted by a weak hug from a weaker mom.
"Shall I stay with you mom, in this coldest darkness?"
"Can the little I left of my body warmth melt the steel of your chain?"
"All the love I had was not enough, all I had was not enough"
Oh the pain, now he feels, is not the ankle, it's inside his heart.
Where salty water cannot heal, were lovingly scars just keep him bleed.
Tears are breaking in the wind.
Rocking on a boat we can all see.
The two bodies at the bottom are resting in peace.
A boy has drowned to save his mother.
A life was wasted to honor his love.
But don't cry now he told his boy.
His sacrifice made him who he is today.
"You see this key?"
"Yes it glows, I can see it dad"
So keep it here, around your neck and if I ever fell, set yourself free.
